Since 1988, Asheville Sister Cities, Inc. has worked with local committees, organizations, schools and groups, and with our friends and partners around the world, to promote cross-cultural awareness, foster international friendships and make a meaningful, lasting impact in our own community and abroad. We have seven sister cities in six countries: San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico; Saumur, France; Karpenisi, Greece; Valladolid, Mexico; Osogbo, Nigeria; Dunkeld and Birnam, Scotland; and Vladikavkaz, Russia. In pursuit of our Mission, we create and develop collaborative projects, plan delegation visits, engage schools, offer volunteer opportunities, and organize a variety of events year-round, including: music, dance and theatrical performances; international craft markets; food and wine tastings; foreign film screenings; language classes; speakers’ series; art and photography exhibits, and much more!
As a local, wholly volunteer non-profit, we promote peace, understanding cooperation and sustainable partnerships through formalized agreements between international cities and the city of Asheville, NC. Membership in Asheville Sister Cities is open to all individuals and organizations who support the Mission of ASCI. Past projects have included: opening fresh water wells in Osogbo; donating medical supplies, books, schools supplies and computers to schools in our Sister Cities; working with several Rotary Clubs and the Wheelchair Foundation to provide wheelchairs to children and deserving adults in our two Mexican Sister Cities; providing opportunities for international student exchanges and internships; and coordinating pen-pal relationships between schools in Asheville and abroad. That’s just a short list! We invite you to Be A Part of Our Global Community by getting involved locally, and Be A Part of Making a Difference in the World!
